“Object Pronouns”
Lesson Content

Grammar Focus
We use object pronouns to replace nouns that receive the action in a sentence. They answer the questions “whom?” or “what?” after the verb or preposition.
🔹 List of Object Pronouns:
- me (for “I”)
- you (same for subject and object)
- him (for “he”)
- her (for “she”)
- it (for animals/things)
- us (for “we”)
- them (for “they”)
These pronouns come after verbs or prepositions.
🔹 Examples:
- “She called me last night.” ✅ (not “I”)
- “Can you help us with the homework?”
- “I saw Brian and waved at him.”
- “We watched a movie. I really liked it.”
✅ Always use the object form after verbs and prepositions.
⚠️ Common mistake: “He told I” ❌ → Correct: “He told me.”
⚠️ Don’t confuse with possessive pronouns like “his” or “their.” Object pronouns are different.
Understanding object pronouns helps you speak more naturally and avoid repeating nouns. It also makes your sentences smoother and easier to follow.
🗣️ Why This Grammar Matters for Listening and Speaking
Object pronouns are everywhere in daily conversations. They help you speak more fluently and understand others quickly, especially when people don’t repeat names or nouns.
🔹 Why it’s useful:
- Makes speech shorter and smoother.
- Helps you follow the action in a conversation (Who did what to whom?).
- Used in questions, instructions, and stories.
✅ Real-life speaking situations:
- Daily conversations:
“I like her.” / “They invited us.” - Making plans:
“Do you want to join them for lunch?” - Giving or getting directions:
“Ask him for help.” / “Call me when you’re done.” - Shopping or services:
“Can you show me another one?”
✅ Listening tip:
In fast speech, object pronouns may be shortened or blended:
- “I saw her” → sounds like “I saw’r”
- “Give it to me” → sounds like “Giv’it t’me”
Recognizing these helps you understand meaning quickly, even if words are said fast or quietly. The more you hear and practice object pronouns, the better your listening and speaking will become.
