Warm-Up Question:
Imagine that you’re upset that you are doing poorly in your English test. What are you going to do to change things around?
Listening in Context:
I texted my sister earlier to remind her that you’re joining us for dinner tonight. I also asked if she could make your favorite dessert, because I know she wouldn’t make it just for me, and I was really hoping to have some too.
Definitions:
Your (possessive adjective): shows that something belongs to the person being spoken to.
– Is this your cat?
– I really like your idea.
You’re (contraction): short for “you are”.
– I think you’re going to enjoy the book.
– Let me know when you’re ready.
How to Remember Which Is Which:
You’re = you are
- If you can replace it with “you are,” it’s you’re.
Example:
- ✅ You’re late → “You are” late.
- ❌ Your book → “You are” book.
You’re the star of the show, and your costume is perfect for it.
