Listening in Context:

I texted my sister earlier to remind her that you’re joining us for dinner tonight. I also asked if she could make your favorite dessert, because I know she wouldn’t make it just for me, and I was really hoping to have some too.

Definitions:

Your (possessive adjective): shows that something belongs to the person being spoken to.
– Is this your cat?
– I really like your idea.

You’re (contraction): short for “you are”.
– I think you’re going to enjoy the book.
– Let me know when you’re ready.

How to Remember Which Is Which:

You’re = you are

  • If you can replace it with “you are,” it’s you’re.

Example:

  • You’re late → “You are” late.
  • Your book → “You are” book.
